## UPLOAD

Upload a local file, letting the platform classify it as a Dataset or a File.

```bash theme={null}
oumi-cli data upload [OPTIONS] {file}
```

**Arguments**

| Argument | Type | Required | Description |
| - | - | - | - |
| `FILE` | path | ✓ | Path to the local file to upload (max 5 GB). Accepted formats: json, jsonl, csv, parquet (candidates for a Dataset) and pdf, txt, md, html (candidates for a File). The server picks between them by inspecting the contents, not the extension. |

**Options**

| Option | Type | Required | Description |
| - | - | - | - |
| `--project` | str | | Project to upload into; falls back to OUMI\_PROJECT\_ID or the active profile. |
| `--display-name` | str | | Display name for the new resource. Defaults to the local filename. |
| `--expiration` | int | | Lifetime of the upload's presigned URL, in seconds. Default: `3600`. |
| `--wait` / `--no-wait` | flag | | Wait for the ingest to finish (default); `--no-wait` returns the operation ID immediately, before the file has been classified; follow with `oumi-cli operations wait <id>`. |
